Our Mission
“To champion accent equality and bridge the gap between academic research and public awareness.”
The Accentism Project is run by Professor Rob Drummond and Dr Amanda Cole. Our work is driven by three primary goals:
1. Research
As experts and active researchers, we carry out and share our academic research on accentism. As leading sociolinguists, our work is dedicated to documenting and understanding the many different ways of speaking and how people feel about them. We aim to bridge the gap between linguistic research and the public.
2. Awareness
We work to raise awareness of accentism and to demonstrate why it is a profound problem. We collect and share real-life stories from the public on their lived experiences of accentism. We also curate an archive of research and media stories on linguistic discrimination.
3. Advocacy
We are committed to challenging and dismantling accentism. We provide specialist corporate accent bias training, alongside other forms of professional consultancy and media engagement.
Help us challenge linguistic discrimination.
